Madrid, Segovia and lots of walking

Puerta del Sol is the heart of Madrid. It attracts all kinds of protests and performance artists.

All highways in Spain used to measure their distances from Kilometer Zero in the Puerta del Sol.
Much of the heart of Madrid is for pedestrians only, and they mob the place

  1. Great photos and journal of your trip, Jim; thanks much. A comment on the Basque language--it seems, from scholarly sources I've checked, that it is not Indo-European. It is regarded as a "language isolate", basically meaning it is unique. It seems to be the only remaining language of the pre-Indo-European inhabitants of Western Europe.
Basque is referred to as Euskara by its speakers.
    Enjoy your trip! Frank
